Homemade Orange Popsicles Recipe

These homemade orange popsicles are bright, refreshing, and incredibly simple to make. With just fresh oranges and a touch of honey—no refined sugar—they make a healthy, naturally gluten-free treat the whole family can enjoy. The vivid orange color comes entirely from the fruit, with no artificial colors or additives.

These popsicles are a great alternative to store-bought frozen treats. They’re quick to prepare, require minimal ingredients, and are perfect to keep in the freezer for warm afternoons or when the kids ask for something sweet. Because they’re made from freshly squeezed orange juice and a small amount of honey, they deliver natural flavor and sweetness without refined sugar.

Ingredients

Orange popsicles ingredients, fresh oranges and honey.

Oranges: I use fresh oranges to keep the recipe simple and wholesome. Oranges differ in sweetness and acidity, so choose a variety you enjoy eating fresh. If fresh oranges aren’t available, use a chilled bottled orange juice labeled “not from concentrate” with no added sugar. Bottled juice can be sweeter than fresh juice, so you may want to dilute it slightly with water and reduce the honey.

Honey: A small amount of honey adds gentle sweetness without refined sugar. The honey flavor is noticeable, so use a mild honey you like. If you prefer not to use honey, you can substitute white sugar or maple syrup; maple syrup will impart its own flavor to the popsicles.

How to make orange popsicles

  • Cutting oranges in half to juice.
  • Juicing oranges with a juicer.
  1. Cut the oranges and juice them into a jug until you have approximately 600 ml (about 2½ cups) of juice. The recipe below lists the number of oranges typically needed.
  2. Add the honey and stir until it dissolves into the juice. Taste and adjust the sweetness to suit your preference.
  3. Pour the mixture into popsicle molds, insert sticks, and freeze for at least four hours or until completely firm.

Hot tip: make sure there’s enough space in your freezer for the molds before you begin—trying to cram them in at the last minute can be frustrating.

  • Adding honey to orange juice.
  • Pouring popsicle mix into molds.

How to serve

To serve, remove the popsicles from the molds and enjoy right away. If they are difficult to release, run the outside of the mold briefly under warm water for a few seconds to loosen them. Be ready for drips on warm days—these melt quickly and deliciously.

How to store

Store the popsicles in an airtight container in the freezer with a layer of baking paper between them to keep them from sticking together. They will keep well for up to two months, though they rarely last that long in a busy household.
