Meatless District in Amsterdam has become a go-to spot for plant-based dining, and their second location in De Pijp continues that streak. After enjoying the opening lunch, I returned to test a selection of menu items and found that the newcomer lives up to the hype. This review covers the atmosphere, standout dishes and practical details for anyone hunting a quality vegan restaurant in Amsterdam.

Stepping inside, the first thing that strikes you is the relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The dining room is bright and welcoming, with a colorful mural that complements the sophisticated yet cozy décor. The vibe fits perfectly for a casual lunch or a comfortable evening out, making it a great choice for both locals and visitors exploring De Pijp.
The menu is varied and approachable, offering dishes that appeal to vegans and non-vegans alike. We started with a hummus platter and a plate of nachos. The hummus was smooth and well seasoned, while the nachos were a real highlight: crisp chips layered with vegan cheese, creamy guacamole and an array of contrasting textures and flavors. It’s the kind of comfort snack that keeps you coming back.
Another starter was the artichoke served with a garlic-forward dip. It’s a convivial dish that works well as a shareable snack while you wait for your mains. The service paced the courses nicely so starters didn’t arrive too early or too late, which helped the meal feel relaxed and unhurried.
For mains we tried the risotto and the Caesar salad. The risotto was satisfyingly creamy, with bright notes of lemon zest that kept it from feeling heavy. The Caesar salad offered a delicious dressing and shiitake “bacon” bits that added a pleasant umami punch and textural contrast. Both dishes showcased thoughtful plant-based technique and balanced seasoning.

For dessert we chose the crème brûlée — a dish I’ve not always enjoyed in the past. This version proved me wrong: it had a smooth, silky custard base with a proper caramelized top. It was a pleasant surprise and a fitting end to a well-rounded meal.
Pricing at Meatless District is mid-range: not bargain-level cheap, but reasonable for the quality, creativity and portion sizes on offer. It’s the kind of spot where you feel good about paying for carefully prepared plant-based food made with attention to flavor and presentation.
