Universal Yums Review: International Candy Subscription Box

I’d always wanted to try an international candy box because it’s so much fun to sample treats from around the world. Even better when cookies and savory snacks are included.

For our anniversary in August my family surprised my husband and me with two international snack subscription boxes: Universal Yums and MunchPak. We enjoyed both, but Universal Yums was our favorite. Below I’ll share what arrived in our Thailand box and why this international snack subscription box makes a great gift for birthdays, holidays, graduations, anniversaries—or simply as a treat for yourself.

We liked the box so much that I plan to order another one for the holidays. If you’ve been curious about a Universal Yums box, this review should help you decide whether to try it.

Review of Our Universal Yums Subscription Box

When my brother ordered the Universal Yums box he was offered a choice between a UK box and a Thailand box. He picked Thailand since my husband and I have been to the UK but never to Thailand. Universal Yums typically offers a selection of countries so you can try snacks from different regions of the world.

We opened the Thailand box as soon as it arrived and tasted everything over the course of a week. Each evening we picked a couple of items to enjoy after dinner, and we found ourselves looking forward to those little tastings all day.

Four reasons we loved the Universal Yums box:

  1. The snacks, cookies, and candy were high quality and flavorful.
  2. We discovered interesting flavor combinations and treats we hadn’t tried before (for example, lemon potato chips). Not every item suited our tastes, but sampling new things was part of the fun.
  3. The box offered a balanced mix of sweet, savory, and crunchy items—snacks, cookies, and candy were all represented.
  4. We enjoyed learning about other food cultures. It’s fascinating to see how different countries define snacks and sweets.
  5. Universal Yums turns the unboxing into an experience by including cultural materials, tasting guides, and activities.

Want to See What Was Inside Our Thailand Box?

We received the largest Universal Yums box, which included more than 20 different snacks, cookies, and candies. The variety made every tasting night feel like a mini-adventure.

The “Devil” chips were very spicy—Aaron loved them, while I preferred the pineapple cookies. There was enough variety that each of us found several favorites.

We could have eaten many more bags of the mixed chips—those textures and flavors were addictive.

We couldn’t finish the whole bag of lemon potato chips, but Aaron enjoyed the crab curry chips and I liked the coconut chips. The range of flavors was bold and memorable.

The rolled cookies were a standout—delicious textures and flavors. We tried corn and banana coconut varieties and enjoyed both.

A small “yum bag” contained individually wrapped candies. The salty pineapple hard candy was a surprising favorite.

What Made Our Universal Yums Box Such a Fun Experience?

Beyond the snacks themselves, the cultural materials that accompanied the box made the experience special. I used to work in international education, so these booklets and activities appealed to me, but my travel-loving husband enjoyed them too.

The Thailand booklet included descriptions for each item, cultural and historical context, trivia, games, and even a few recipes. It turned simple snacking into a small cultural lesson.

The tasting scoreboard was particularly fun. After sampling each product you can record your ratings, which helps keep track of favorites—especially after trying many items over several nights.

The box also lists snacks that were considered but didn’t make the cut, and customers can vote online for upcoming box themes, making the subscription interactive.
