An overdue visit

I have to admit I should have come here years ago. The moment I walked in I felt like I’d discovered a little piece of candy history tucked into the city. The shop blends classic retail charm with a working factory atmosphere; it’s warm, nostalgic, and undeniably focused on quality confections.

I introduced myself to Steve Zahir, the owner, and he generously gave me a tour of the 61-year-old store and factory. Steve was welcoming and clearly proud of the shop’s traditions and the care that goes into every product. His passion for the craft and for preserving the store’s history is immediately apparent.

One of the highlights of my visit was seeing the old chocolate machine that has become a local legend. Steve showed me the machine, which was manufactured in 1918 and is still in use today. The shop is famous for its connection to the I Love Lucy show—the episode where Lucy works in a chocolate store and can’t keep up with the conveyor belt—and Steve pointed out the very machine associated with that iconic scene. It’s a remarkable bit of television and confectionery history sitting right in the production area.
