A New Book, A New Friend

Releasing a new book always brings the joy of meeting new people. Recently I had the pleasure of meeting Rohn Strong, a talented knitwear and crochet designer whose work and warmth I admire.

Rohn is an established designer, teacher, and author who collaborates frequently with Lion Brand Yarn. Because my novels often include crafting — quilting, knitting, crocheting, and embroidery all feature in my stories — it felt natural to bring a knitted piece into this book. In the story, Celia is a beginner knitter hoping to adopt a baby and dreaming of knitting a blanket. Reading his story, I was struck by how early craft became part of his life and how clearly he followed that passion into a creative career. That sense of enthusiasm and dedication mirrored my own feelings about making, so collaborating felt easy and right.

A Fellow Crafter

Beyond his credentials, I discovered Rohn is an avid reader who enjoys women’s fiction and romance — a delightful overlap with my world. Our conversations, by email and social media, moved from project details to shared reading lists and life as makers. I even enjoyed his Instagram stories, especially the ones with his dog.

We planned a joint event at Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh, North Carolina, which shifted to a virtual format. While that was a minor disappointment, we later met for dinner and had a long, lovely conversation. The highlight for me was receiving the finished Celia Fairchild Knitted Baby Blanket as a gift — it was beautiful and thoughtful.

Inspiration Realized
