How to Make an Essential Oil Diffuser Necklace

This diffuser necklace is simple, affordable, and one of my favorite quick DIY projects. You can make your own for about $1–$2 each, depending on the materials you choose. They’re perfect for craft classes, party favors, team gifts, teacher appreciation, or a handmade treat to keep for yourself.

These necklaces are incredibly quick to assemble — I made 20 in around 15 minutes. No special tools or jewelry experience required, just a few basic supplies and a few drops of your favorite essential oil.

Step-by-Step Instructions (as easy as 1-2-3)

Putting these diffuser necklaces together takes only a few simple steps. No tools are needed for the basic version.

1. Pop a lava bead or wool ball into the wire cage

Gently pry the cage open with your fingers just enough to slide the bead or felt ball inside. The cage snaps back into place and secures the bead without glue or clasps.

2. Slide the chain or cord through the pendant

Run your chosen chain or waxed cord through the pendant’s bail and fasten the necklace. That’s all there is to the assembly.

3. Add essential oil and enjoy

Place a few drops of your favorite essential oil directly onto the lava bead or wool ball inside the cage. Reapply every few days or when the scent fades. The porous bead holds the oil and slowly releases its aroma throughout the day.
